3 John 2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
When I hear or write the sentence 'God wants us to be healthy.", it seems like the end of the sentence should just be "Duh!" Like, of course God wants us to be healthy. He's God. He made us. Why wouldn't He want us to be healthy. But most of us know that in reality what healthy is can get real complicated real fast in the world we live in (which is a whole topic for another day). For today, I want to just focus on God's desire for us to be healthy. One simple desire of a Father for His children.
3 John verse 2 is just a simple verse I chose because it states very clearly that to God the health of our bodies is as important as the health of our souls.
Last year, the Holy Spirit impressed upon me the word "Let". I was reading in Genesis that God said "LET there be light." (Emphasis mine) I was pondering what does the word "let" really mean. I did a word study on it. Looking it up in Strong's concordance I found that the word let is in the Bible (NJKV) about 1,575 times in 1,272 verses. However, the word let is rarely ever it's own word in the concordance. It is combined with the verb entry in Strong's, such as "let there be" in Genesis 1:3 "Let there be light, and there was light." Let only appears in Strong's concordance as it's own word for a few verses. So I searched deeper. What I found is that the word let in all the other verses modifies the verb in the sentence and, in general, means "desire". So, looking at Genesis 1:3, when it says "let there be light" it means that God desired that there would be light, and since we know that what He speaks happens, if He said He desired that there would be light, then there was light.
What does that mean for us, though? If God desires that we are healthy, and if He desires and speaks something then it happens, why don't we just become healthy? Wellll, since sin entered the world and we have a will and we can choose, we also have to desire that we be healthy if we want Him to work in us.
The Pray First topic for today was seek God's ways (see God's Word...Principle 1 blog for more about Pray First : ). The world has a lot of ideas about what healthy is. One of the main purposes of Kingdom Health is to look at what God says healthy is. Isaiah 55:9 says "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts." Seems to me that if we want to know what healthy is, we need to look at God's thoughts (God's Word) and His ways (God's design). I believe Proverbs 3:5-6 goes with that as well.
For today, though, let's not worry about what healthy is. Let's just focus on the wonderful truth that our Abba Father desires that we are healthy, and bask in the knowledge that when He desires something and we humbly express even a small desire, He acts and His Holy Spirit will lead us into the truth in a way that is perfect for each one of us and good for all of us.
